The European golfing tour heads back to the Middle East this week, with the Al Mouj course just outside of Muscat hosting the Oman Open.
The course is set in the desert but is also links-style as it also lies against the coast. Last year’s winner was Joost Luiten, a player used to playing in windy conditions given his regular course is The Dutch, on the coast in Holland.
Luiten played very well in Mexico at the WGC event over the weekend, finishing in the top ten, and is entitled to go well in this event again providing he recovers from the traveling. We’ll take a chance that he does.
To balance the books after picking one of the tournament’s favourites, we’re going further down the list for our each way selection. George Coetzee has been a little off form of late, finishing tied 56th in Mexico and tied 67th in Saudi Arabia, but he has won four times on the European Tour in the past. He has class, can play in windy conditions and we can get a triple digit price. We’ll take a punt.
Luiten to win, 1 pt, at 11/1, Ladbrokes
Coetzee 0.5 pts at 125/1, 1/4 the odds for the first five places, bet365
