The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Monatomic, (1615 Leopardstown), 1pt win, 3/1 generally available
Two Gordon Elliott novices dominate the market for this 2m5f handicap chase. Dakota Moirette has been knocking on the door all season but this step up in trip is challenging as he faded into a distant last of 3 on husband only previous run beyond 2m. Monatomic on the other hand was an excellent 2nd last Sunday to the progressive Poker Party, staying on well, and his proven stamina can win the day.
Polished Steel, (1510 Leopardstown), 9/1: a quandary for us here and we may live to regret it. Ming Dynasty was one of last week’s Yankee heroes, but although he won easily the logic in part was how weak that race was. This is stronger and he is up 9lbs. Polished Steel was a huge flop for us last weekend, but that was an extra half mile on soft ground and having tanked through the early stages and arrived full of running approaching 2 out, he promptly hit it and the tank ran empty immediately. We’ll risk that the step back will suit Polished Steel.
Dyliev, (1535 Huntingdon), 11/4: this in form mare is a truly tricky ride. Jockey Sean Bowen finished second on her twice when looking sure to win, and he learned his lesson here last time when cajoling her to lead on the run-in having actually pulled her back approaching the last. Up just 3lbs reflects the narrow margin, but she may have plenty more in hand just don’t expect her to hit the front until as late as possible.
American Life, (1640 Huntingdon), 14/1: we’ve picked him twice in recent weeks and he’s been a non runner – caught out last time by the new vaccination rules. Loves a long trip, adores heavy ground, the forecast good ground would be far from ideal, but the forecast all day rain would be perfect. Has been well backed prior to withdrawal both times recently and expect the money to pour if the rain pours.
