The PGA Tour heads to one of its iconic venues this week, Bay Hill – for the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
A number of the game’s elite are missing, particularly Tiger Woods who has won eight times around this course. But we still have a quality field.
Rory McIlroy is the defending champion. He has been playing very well of late on courses that may not necessarily suit his game – four top 5 finishes in a row – and now turns up at a course that does. He’s a short price, but we like his chances.
Next in the betting are Brooks Koepka and Justin Rose. Both are quality players and obviously have chances, but Koepka was in the heat of battle on Sunday and Rose is likely fine tuning his game for Augusta, so we’ll pass. Bryson DeChambeau is another player that often sees our cash, but he’s been a little off of late.
Our each way selection is something of a punt. The Bay Hill course tends to reward players that have length off the tee – and very few hit it as far as Luke List. Now it’s true he missed the cut last time out, but he finished tied 15th the week before. The main reason he attracts, though, is he has played well here in the past. He finished tied 7th last year and tied 17th the year before. We’ll take a chance.
McIlroy to win, 1 pt, at 13/2, widely available
List 0.5 pts each way at 80/1, 1/5 the odds for the first six places, William Hill
