Premier League: Virgil van Strike…

There are a couple of Premier League games to feast over this Sunday, both including a team from Merseyside taking on a London outfit.

First up, Fulham host Liverpool. The Reds arrive fresh from a famous midweek win in Munich and need the three points today to return to the top of the table. Their hosts need the points just as badly, but for very different reasons as they lie deep in relegation trouble.

It’s difficult to look past a Liverpool win today, but the bookies tend to agree and Liverpool’s main goal scorers are priced accordingly. Instead we’ll look at one of Liverpool’s scorers against Bayern, Virgil van Dijk.

The big central defender was teased by James Milner after the Champions League match over not scoring enough given his height. He did net twice against Watford a few games ago, and we’ll take a chance that he continues this run against a team that has defended set pieces poorly this season.

Paddy Power is top priced at 6/1 van Dijk scores anytime during the game, but Paddy also has an enhanced 17/2 that he scores a header. We’ll take that.

The second match sees Everton host Chelsea. It’s difficult to side with the Toffees after their collapse against Newcastle last time out, while Chelsea will be full of confidence after thrashing Dynamo Kiev midweek.

Everton have lost four of their last six at home and Chelsea are likely to recall rested players, giving them the quality to deepen the gloom around Goodison Park.

One of the players rested midweek that is likely to return is Ross Barkley. The former Everton star will be keen to impress his former colleagues, and we’ll take him to score anytime during the game.

Recommendations:

Fulham/Liverpool: Van Dijk to score a header, 1 pt, at 17/2, Paddy Power

Everton/Chelsea: Barkley to score anytime, 1 pt, at 19/5, Unibet
