The European Tour heads to Asia this week, with the Saujana Golf Club hosting the Maybank Championship Malaysia. The field is not the strongest with many of Europe’s elite concentrating on the run up to the US Masters in early April.
Defending champion is Shubhanker Sharma, and the Indian must have a chance again given his game is tailored to this comparatively short, tree-lined course. However, his form hasn’t been that impressive of late, with his highest finish this year being 29th in the Dubai Desert Classic.
Instead we’re going to side with Aaron Rai. The young English golfer won the Hong Kong Open at the end of 2018, actually the first event of the 2019 European Tour. We think these two events closely resemble each other, and this would act as a good form guide.
And again, using the Hong Kong Open as a guide, we’re also going to side with Matthias Schwab. The young Austrian finished tied ninth in Hong Kong and looks on the verge of making his breakthrough on the European Tour. He is an excellent scrambler and this could bode well on this tight course.
Rai 0.5 pts each way at 50/1, 1/4 the odds for the first five places, SkyBet
Schwab 0.5 pts each way at 90/1, 1/5 the odds for the first six places, Unibet
