NAP OF THE DAY: Classic Ben, (1405 Newbury), 1pt win, 9/2 generally available
Still relatively unexposed over fences and was a worthy winner in a nice handicap at Sandown last time. Only got a 4lb lift for that, which looks very generous, and should be well suited to this test. Looks nicely in against mostly older legs with too much mileage.
Joke Dancer, (1425 Newbury), 9/2: it looked significant that connections withdrew from the chance for festival experience after he unexpected slipped into bottom weight for the Coral Cup. That suggests some serious intend to build on his recent comeback win, and this valuable race has been picked as the target. Should run a big race.
Worthy Farm, (1535 Kelso), 7/2: it was very tempting to pick the well priced Tomkevi here, but it has to be significant that trainer-genius Nicholls sends Worthy Farm all the way up from his West Country base. The prize is valuable, and with the useful 5lb claim of Lorcan Williams he runs off much the same net mark as when a cosy Ascot winner last time.
Rock On Rocky, (1735 Newbury), 9/2: this veteran was a smooth winner of this race when held up for a late run last year. Has been burnt up on or near the pace of late, which has seen his mark drop to 5lbs below last year’s winning level. The booking of Sam Twiston-Davies suggests more tactical nuance today in a race that is likely to have been the target for some time.
