The WGC Dell Match Play has reached the knockout stage, with the draw for the last 16 now complete.
Our pre-tournament selection, Louis Oosthuizen has got through the group stage and is thus still in play. As a result we’ll leave the bottom half of the draw alone and hope Louis continues to prosper.
Turning to the top half of the draw, there is a match that springs out from the paper – Rory McIlroy versus Tiger Woods. Rory has been playing much better than his illustrious opponent this week, but his price is short and Tiger showed signs of life on Friday with a four hole burst of five under par. There could be so much emotional energy attached to this match that the winner has nothing left to give later on. We’ll leave alone.
Instead, we’re going to take a punt on Matt Kuchar. Kooch, as he’s affectionately known throughout the golfing world, has made it through to the knockout phase for the second straight year, resulting in a record in this format of 25 wins, four draws and just nine losses, including winning the event in 2013 (albeit at a different venue).
He now takes on Tyrrell Hatton and is expected to beat the Englishman. At 16/1, he’s a nice price to win from the top half of the draw.
Recommendation: Kuchar to win, 1 pt, at 16/1, William Hill
