Saturday Yankee: King for the day…

The Daily Yankee:

NAP OF THE DAY:   Beringer, (1535 Doncaster), 2pts win, 8/1 generally available

The Lincoln is a tough race for a nap of the day, but we can’t resist the bang-in-form Alan King’s 4yo.  Crept in here with bottom weight and has course wizard Atzeni booked to ride.  Spent most of his career as a 3yo coming with smooth runs but lacking crucial final kick at 10f.  This drop to a mile looks a genius play, and he should be fit enough from his dual purpose yard.

Equilateral, (1350 Doncaster), 7/2:  may not be the highest rated in this field, but hinted a few times that he may have a real touch of class.  Never better than when winning here on seasonal debut.  This is a tough ask, but he should live conditions, has a great jockey booking, and his stable can barely miss at the moment.

Matterhorn, (1405 Kempton), 15/8:  possibly the biggest all weather improves this winter, up 32lbs in the ratings off 6 straight wins.  Looks better each time but now tries his luck outside of handicaps.  The step up could be a challenge, but he should get the lead here and just looks irrepressible at the moment.

Petrus, (1425 Doncaster), 8/1:  this Lincoln consolation race looks pretty thin on talent.  Brian Meehan often a starts quickly, and his 4yo Petrus catches the eye having narrowly missed getting into the big race.  Tom Marquand is riding at his very best and can take this on a horse taking a distinct drop in grade and likely to have improved for another winter under the belt.
