NAP OF THE DAY: Troubled Soul, (1505 Market Rasen), 1pt win, 5/1 generally available
An interesting race with a 3/1 favourite yet to win in 20 chases, and a 4/1 second favourite who hasn’t won over this short a trip in 4 years. Troubled Soul has had her jumping issues, but she looked good when putting in a good round at Kelso and ran with promise back over hurdles last time. She can come from off the pace which could be valuable in a race with a number of front runners in opposition.
Mr Strutter, (1455 Southwell), 3/1: hot favourite Marble Bar won for us last week, he is up another 5lbs here and whilst the obvious one, he must be getting close to his ceiling and is way too short. Mr Strutter has run two blinders here, winning well before some desperate bad luck last time. Can run well after a break and looks the value to upset the hotpot.
Mixboy, (1555 Southwell), 9/4: win a 2m4f chase at Musselburgh last time but has shown he can handle flat races in this unusual track. Likes to race prominently which works well. Favourite Blazon has won his last three but tries this surface for the first time and could be a little short in the market.
Dono Di Dio, (1915 Kempton), 8/1: this filly has been in fine form here with figures of 1222. Has notched up a fraction for losing, but the slighter shorter trip here and the likely strong pace should help her improvement outstrip the handicapper’s rises. Should go close again.
