NAP OF THE DAY: Dorchester Dom, (1450 Windsor), 1pt win, 5/4 generally available
the value of a racecourse run for a 2yo is massive. That gives a brief window of opportunity at this juncture of the flat season to back horses with a run against those making debut. It’s even more compelling if, as today, that experience was an excellent 4th in the Brocklesby at Doncaster. Dorchester Dom is bred to be speedy, yet was an unfancied 33/1 shot when outrunning expectations. He can put that to great work here.
Fuwairt, (1500 Redcar), 12/1: has been running well on the all weather since returning from a spell in Ireland. His back history suggests he is at least as good on turf and the fitting of first time cheek pieces alongside his guaranteed fitness make him a lively outsider.
Forest Of Dean, (1530 Redcar), 6/4: ran awy with a Newcastle maiden last time, and his stable of John Gosden has been in flying form since around 1996. Well bred and with proven fitness he has been left unchanged on 83 despite that impressive novice win and can prove a step ahead of the handicapper.
Kilbaha Lady, (1600 Redcar), 13/2: another who has been running well on the all weather and comes here fit as a flea and off a lower mark than when winning on turf last summer. Also tries the first time cheekpieces and let’s hope that’s the flavour of the day.
