Champions League: Stalemate at new Spurs stadium…

The Champions League returns tonight at the quarterfinals stage, with two games involving English teams.

The first game sees Tottenham host Manchester City. The visitors have won the last four clashes between the two, but Spurs will be hoping the move to the new stadium can inspire them to greater heights.

Spurs had the weekend off while City had a tough FA Cup semifinal. And this could give them a freshness to counter City’s greater talent. With this in mind, and given this is the first leg, we think this could be a tight game. We’ll plump for a 1-1 draw, thinking both sides could settle for this score if it was to be in place around the 70 minute mark.

The second game sees Liverpool host Porto, a repeat of the last 16 clash from last season. On that occasion Liverpool won 5-0 on aggregate.

This Liverpool team are not playing with the same fluency and Porto look a stronger side, but the Reds are still likely to have too much for their Portuguese opponents.

That said, the first leg is likely to be a cagey affair and we think there could be only a few goals. With this in mind we’re going to take the first goalscorer route for the extra price. James Milner came off the bench on Friday so us likely to play today. He takes Liverpool’s penalties when playing, and we’ll take the 14/1 on offer that he scores first.

Tottenham/Man City: 1-1 correct score, 1 pt, at 13/2, BetVictor

Liverpool/Porto: Milner to score first, 1 pt, at 14/1, Bet365
