We’ve already selected Justin Rose as our headline pick for the US Masters, but there are other specialty bets which have also caught our eye.
One bet that usually piques our interest is that of the first round leader. The top stars are usually priced higher in this market that the overall winner market, and vice versa, as most players can shoot the odd good round but few have the consistency needed to win.
However, Betway have a betting offer which creates an interesting dynamic. They are paying as winners any player who tops the leaderboard on any day. Because of the integrity of the winners market, this means you can get some traditionally fast-starting players at good prices, with the option of being paid if they also lead after day two or three.
Step forward Charley Hoffman. The American is a combined 16 under par for his opening rounds since 2015, including a 65, a 67 and a 69. He has an early tee off time so can attack while the course is at its most pristine. Best priced at 40/1 to be the first round leader, Betway have priced him at 66/1 to win the event.
Another player that springs to mind for this bet is Brandt Snedeker. He has carded a first round in the 60s in five of his last seven tournaments. He’s available at 80/1 in the winner market with Betway, but best priced at 66/1 to be first round leader.
Finally, a couple of shorter priced bets. The field for the best amateur is quite big, with six runners, but Viktor Hovland should land the prize. He is the reigning US Amateur champion, having dominated the field at Pebble Beach. A price of 6/4 still offers value.
Additionally, the race to be top Australian looks interesting. Jason Day and Adam Scott have form around this course, but there are doubts about both. Day has a back injury while Scott has issues with his putting. We’ll take Marc Leishman to topple both and also hold off young Cameron Smith.
Betway winner: Hoffman 1 pt at 66/1 and Snedeker 1 pt at 80/1.
Double: Hovland as top amateur and Leishman as top Australian, 1 pt, at approximately 7/1
