NAP OF THE DAY: Las Tunas, (1500 Perth), 1pt win, 6-1 generally available
An interesting race with some unexposed types, but the winner maybe one of the more exposed ones. Las Tunas has been in flying form over fences, especially since the ground firmed up. Switches back to hurdling here, where he is 9lbs lower, and can make that tell.
Marracudja, (1425 Perth), 6/4: has been a free running sort in the past. Trainer Dan Skelton has been doing very well on the spring ground with horses off the back of a wind operation, and this guy showed plenty when staying on from the rear at the Cheltenham Festival. This track and ground should suit a whole lot better, and he looks to have this at his mercy.
Johnny Cavagin, (1450 Beverley), 7/2: the two form horses here are Musharrif and Johnny Cavagin, but they’ve drawn berths 10 and 11 on the outside. Not the best spot at Beverley, but that’s priced in and the rest of this field is poor enough not to get too hung up on the draw. Graham Lee can be trusted to get Johnny into position, and the veteran looked in fine fettle when winning a better race at Pontefract recently.
Kylie Rules, (1655 Beverley), 2/1: apart from being a match for our football writer’s tattoo, Kylie Rules is also a filly with great form. She had her rivals spinning around when an 8l winner here last week, and a 6lb penalty hardly looks enough to slow her down. Looks a sure thing? We should be so lucky.
