The Champions League semifinals start this evening, with Tottenham taking on Ajax at their new stadium in London.
Both teams have done very well to get to this stage, after all neither were expected to get through the last round. But Ajax seem to be in the better position having got here. They have no major injury worries and should be rested after the Dutch league program was cancelled last weekend on their behalf.
Spurs, by contrast, look to be struggling. Their main striker Harry Kane is injured, and Heung-min Son, the player who has taken up most of the slack in Kane’s absence, is suspended. On top of this the team looked very tired in defeat by West Ham on Saturday.
This all suggests Ajax are arriving with more confidence, and the bookies have contracted their odds as a result. However, Spurs have won to nil in three of their last four Champions League home games and English teams have a strong record against their Dutch equivalents.
We don’t think there will be many goals in the game but will take Spurs midfielder Dele Alli to get the opener as he presses forward to support the beleaguered forward line.
Recommendations: Alli to score first goal, 1 pt, at 8/1, William Hill
