Liverpool suffered the full force of Lionel Messi in the first leg of the semifinal of the Champions League last week, and now they have it all to do.
Liverpool trail 3-0 from the first leg and thus need to score at least four tonight if they are to progress without the drama of penalties. This becomes five if Barcelona score.
The Reds have traditionally been a difficult team to best at Anfield, but they are missing two of their powerful attacking triumvirate. Additionally, Barcelona are the only side to win more than once at Anfield in the Champions League, in 2001 and 2007. The venue will hold fewer fears for them than most.
Liverpool have to attack en mass and this will make them vulnerable to sharp counterattacks. We think Barcelona will score, and this makes the visitors the value to win tonight. William Hill offers 3/1 Barca win with Messi scoring, and we’ll be on that.
Additionally, there could be some desperate tackles flying as the Liverpool central midfielders try to stop the Barcelona breaks. We’ll take the 11/4 on offer that James Milner receives a yellow card.
Barcelona to win with Messi scoring, 1 pt, at 3/1, William Hill
Milner to be booked, 1 pt, at 11/4, Unibet
