NAP OF THE DAY: Copper Knight, (1350 Chester), 1pt win 5/2 generally available
Won at this meeting in both 2016 and 2017. Has improved to a lifetime high rating, but loves this track and has the crucial prime draw. His return at Musselburgh was an eye catching 4th that could have been a whole lot better with some luck. Looks hard to beat.
King Of Tonga, (1500 Chester), 5/1: returned in good form when a narrow second at Beverley recently. Also ran well when narrowly beaten here last year. He’s the form horse and might have been a shorter favourite but for being drawn in stall 8. That said, this distance offers the best chance to find a position before the bends and in Paul Hannagan he has a wily veteran on board who can be trusted to navigate wisely.
Gabrial The One, (1630 Chester), 7/1: ran here four times as a 2yo so the course should hold no fears. Managed to find trouble in running in a small field at Beverley on his return but stayed on with some promise. Has a middle draw, but the market leaders are even wider, and he looks worth a punt at a meeting his owner and stable target so much.
Crownthorpe, (1705 Chester), 11/4: ran well in good races in Ireland and at Ripon before surging clear to win in style at Beverley last time. Gets a 5lb penalty here but that doesn’t look enough to stop him. A good draw should ensure a handy racing position, and he should follow up.
