Today sees the end of the Premier League season and the title is still up for grabs. Manchester City will retain their crown should they beat Brighton on the south coast, but any slip up could let in Liverpool as they take on Wolves at Anfield.
There may be pressure on City to continue winning today, but they have won their last four meetings with Brighton, including twice this season. They are clearly the better team and should do the job comfortably today. City would be the first team to retain the Premier League title since their cross city neighbours 10 years ago.
Many City players have stood out this season, with Raheem Sterling being named the Football Writers Player of the Year. But the one that has surprised us with his quality had been Bernardo Silva. We’ll take him to open the scoring today.
Liverpool have to win today just to keep City honest. They come fresh off their tremendous win over Barcelona in the Champions League and will be buzzing. In many ways the pressure is now off them, as their season doesn’t end today. Wolves have been tremendous this season, but today’s game may be a bridge too far.
We look for Liverpool to win today, but this is unlikely to be enough. As far as betting is concerned, Mo Salah is chasing his second Golden Boot and stands two clear of the chasing pack. We expect the Egyptian to recover from injury and go looking for goals, and his teammates to be aware of this. We take the 9/2 on offer that he scores twice.
As far as the other games are concerned, Chelsea looked out on their feet on Thursday and now have to travel to a resurgent Leicester team. The Blues have nothing on this game – they have already qualified for the Champions League and have the Europa League final to consider – and thus we’ll take a home win.
Additionally, Tottenham return home after their tremendous win in Amsterdam midweek to progress to the Champions League final. They face an inconsistent Everton side and will be wanting to put on a show for their home support. At odds against, a home win seems a value bet.
We will double Leicester and Tottenham, creating an approximate 4/1 bet.
Brighton/Man City: Bernardo Silva to score first, 1 pt, at 9/1, bet365
Liverpool/Wolves: Salah to score twice, 1 pt, at 9/2, William Hill
Leicester and Tottenham to win as a double, 1 pt, at approximately 4/1, widely available
