NAP OF THE DAY: Prejudice, (1655 Newbury), 1pt win, 11/4:
Extremely well bred and seems sure to enjoy this trip now he’s a 3yo. Signed off his 2yo season with two good nursery runs, but should be much better for time. His brother Postponed just kept getting better and it will be disappointing if we don’t look back at this mark of 85 as something of a gift.
Ice Age, (1410 Newbury), 6/1: hard to know what to make of lightly raced unbeaten Habub but he’s short enough. That leaves last year’s winner of this Ice Age at a decent price. He may not have shown much but having been second in this in 2017 it is likely to have been the target. Trainer Eve Johnson Houghton provided a winner for us yesterday and this fella looks set to lead from the start.
Twist ‘N’ Shake, (1425 York), 2/1: didn’t look much in her one 2yo run, but her 3yo debut was a cracking effort when pushing Oaks fancy Maqsad all the way. Cruised home in a minor maiden since and now tries much deeper waters, but is fit, in form, and in that Maqsad form is entitled to be a warm favourite.
Buckland Boy, (1520 Newbury), 5/1: ran with promise as a 3yo and could be an improved now he’s 4. Certainly looked that way when able to make up significant late ground at Thirsk, which is against the course bias, to win in big field there on his return. A 3lb rise probably underestimates that performance and gives him room to follow up where this long straight looks set to suit.
