The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Merry Banter, (1605 Redcar), 1pt win, 11/2:
Lightning fast front running mare who recorded 3 all the way wins last season, including a lifetime best here at the end of the season off 83. Not unduly punished and arrives here off 84. Showed a massive sign of being in top form when leading despite a terrible draw at Epsom until weakening late into third. Won’t have to use the petrol so aggressively to lead here and can last home.
Lamloom, (1515 Carlisle), 11/4: hasn’t shown too much in two runs this year but has consequently dropped back to a winning mark and one which allows for this drop in class. Nothing here to be too scared of and a reversion to any kind of form should be enough to win, the stable still hits a greater than 20% strike rate.
La Sioux, (1635 Redcar), 11/4: won this race last year off a mark of 60 and won again at Musselburgh last time off the same mark. Just 4lbs higher here albeit that’s a mark she struggled off last year. Good apprentice claims 5lbs, and that, along with the course suitability and relatively weak opposition suggest she can follow up.
Colour Contrast, (1715 Carlisle), 4/1: has this leopard changed his spots? After a year of perpetually finishing second he returned this year to record an easy win at Musselburgh before following up there when we backed him last time. That was an easy win and he is up in the weights and this is a stiffer finish, it may be enough to stop the momentum, but he has looked reformed and it may be worth giving him a chance to prove he hasn’t reached his ceiling yet.
