Golf in Europe this week centers around the Belgian Knockout, taking place at the Rinkven International Golf Club, just outside Antwerp.
This competition is making its second appearance on the European Tour, and combines stroke play for the first two days with match play over nine holes after the field has been reduced to 64 players.
Spaniard Adrian Otaegui won the inaugural tournament last year, and he closed last week’s tournament in Denmark with a 67 to finish tied 16th. He’s the type of player we’re looking – someone in form to get through the first two days and then solid enough not to give any holes away when the match play phase starts. We’ll side with him to defend his title.
Our other selection is Matthias Schwab. The Austrian is playing well at the moment, finishing tied ninth last weekend. He has made nine cuts from 11 tournaments this year, so is likely to make the knockout phase. He also led the field last week in ball striking and was second in overall accuracy – just the sort of stats we’re looking for.
Otaegui to win, 1 pt, at 30/1, SkyBet
Schwab to win, 1 pt, at 45/1, SkyBet
