Wednesday Yankee: That’s the Spirit…

Two from two on the naps this week as yesterday’s pick Inspired Thought (5/2) prevailed having had the form of his previous second to Wise Words boosted when that horse delivered an 11/2 winning nap on Monday.

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Global Spirit, (1420 Hamilton), 1pt win, 7/2:

Switched in the close season from Ed Dunlop to Roger Fell. Fell has done brilliantly with these types of imports in recent seasons and is in good form of late.  This horse nearly added to the win stats when second here on debut, and with the benefit of that run he looks a good bet to go one better.

Mywayistheonlyway, (1440 Beverley), 9/2: won here in 2017 off 72, and his two runs here last year were 4th off that mark and 2nd off 74.  Was poor afterwards but now returns off just 62.  A fair 8th on debut he was suspiciously well fancied before running second to a well in horse at Ayr last week.  Looks back to some form, is back on a track he loves, and is drawn to track the pace battle between market rivals Gabrial The Tiger and Abushamah.

Betty Grable, (1555 Hamilton), 2/1:  won an apprentice event in smooth fashion under this rider last week.  We fancy victim Mywayistheonlyway to come good earlier this afternoon, so we have to fancy Betty who under a quirk of handicapping runs off a pound lower than the Ayr race, and with the rider’s 7lb claim to deduct, then arguably lower still.  Should strike again if coping with this surface.

Whatwouldyouknow, (1610 Beverley), 9/2: won here last season and was promising when 4th here on seasonal debut last time.   Has a bit to find with Glacier Fox on that run even on revised weights, but trainer Guest often improves runners from their debuts, and this horse was progressive enough last season to expect there’s plenty more to come.
