Friday Yankee: Time to back Orf…

A non-runner broke our run of nap winners, but the unbeaten run is still alive !!  Oaks day is perfect for keeping that going….although our Oaks pick, Maqsad, doesn’t get on the Yankee ticket as there are juicier options elsewhere on the card.

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Ripp Orf, (1750 Epsom), 1pt win, 5/1:

A fascinating 7f handicap where two four-time winners of last season make most appeal. Corazon Espinado loves it here and is only 2lb above his last winning mark, but those four wins were in class 4 and this is two steps up the ladder. Ripp Orf won twice in this grade last year and is only just above the mark of his win in a big Ascot handicap. Had no luck when running here last year, and showed plenty in a big field at Ascot last time to suggest his time is near.

Hors De Combat, (1435 Epsom), 14/1:   Has  been a high class handicapper throughout his career albeit often on the fringes.  Placed in the top half dozen of the big mile handicaps at Ascot and Goodwood last year off 103, he finally drops to a fair mark of 97, his lowest in 5 years.  Ran well at Newbury in comeback and goes well for Oisin Murphy.  Could be very dangerous here at a good price.

Old Persian, (1510 Epsom), 10/3:  St Leger 1-2 Kew Gardens and Lah Ti Dar head the market.  Both need to improve on slightly below par seasonal debuts, which they’ may well do, but Old Persian led that Leger at this distance and was in sparkling form in Meydan when last seen in the Spring.  He is now officially rated the best horse here, and his connections have forked out big money to supplement is entry.  He may not prove to be the best of the trio in time, but looks primed to be the best of them today.

Angel’s Hideaway, (1715 Epsom), 9/4:  only two wins in ten runs, but the last 8 of those were in Group company and she finally gets a chance here at a lower grade.  Looked a real contender in the 1000G at this distance before predictably failing to see out the mile.  This easy 7f looks ideal and she should have far too much for her rivals here.
