The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Golden Apollo, (2000 Ripon), 2pts win, 6/1:
Has dropped below his previous winning mark and has run well on his two previous visits here. Goes on any ground and looks favourably drawn. Was gambled on in a big handicap at York last time and travelled well throughout but got no room when he needed a run. Looks ready to strike.
Mawakib, (1915 Kempton), 11/4: has looked in need of this step up to 7f. Had no luck here two runs ago suggesting this is a winning mark. A second last time at Newmarket was very decent again looking in need of this trip. The return to this course should suit and both trainer and jockey are in flying form.
Dominus, (1930 Ripon), 2/1: has had a busy season already but was making only his handicap debut at Newmarket last time. That was a fine effort when just caught by the useful Dazzling Dan. This sharp track and a stand side draw look perfect.
Big Kitten, (1945 Kempton), 5/2: bred for this surface and looks very useful. Tries 12f again having looked a non-stayer over this trip at Newcastle previously. That track is a pretty stiff test whilst the bends of Kempton are more a test of speed. That could be crucial.
