Friday Yankee: Get Perks at York…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Archie Perkins, (1420 York), 1pt win, 4/1:

A typically strong York handicap and a possible battle between two winners of recent days.  Ghalib was impressive at Hamilton, but Archie Perkins travelled like a good one in victory at Beverley and had them badly strung out by the end.  He is hiked up by the penalty but that smooth travelling style should suit here and he is in the form of his life.

Shawaamekh, (1530 York), 5/1:  another big York field but again more numbers than depth.  Shawaamekh didn’t see a racecourse til a 4yo, and only made his handicap debut in April when a good runner up.  Filled the same spot when returning a bit quickly and can improve now he’s has a better break.  This race will take less winning than the field size implies.

Herculean, (1545 Sandown), 6/4:  this lightly raced son of Frankel has had just four starts winning two including on soft. He was a fair third on handicap debut at the end of last season, and he is just the sort to make a much better 4yo.  Can kick off by dismissing these lesser types with ease.

Goshen, (1725 Sandown), 1/1:  was stepped to 12f last time after three maiden runs at around a mile. that was a handicap debut and saw a 12l romp. Runs here under a penalty and is 5lbs well in versus his new rating.  The extra 2f should suit and this track works well for a prominent racer.  Should follow up.
