Saturday Yankee: Ladies day?

A couple of winners yesterday gives some confidence heading into a great weekend and of course the imminent allure of Ascot…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Ladies First (1610 York), 2pts win, 6/1:

Ran a particularly pleasing race on her seasonal return on ground that would have been fast enough. Has shown her best in a soft surface and has optimal conditions today with the extra furlong likely to suit.  Ran her best two races of last year at this track, and comes here only 4lbs higher than when winning here on soft last Autumn in a race in which the front two pulled well clear.

Billy No Mates, (1350 York), 10/1: looked decent last year especially on a softer surface. Ran very well on his reappearance running on quietly from the rear. Should enjoy this step up in trip and the going and gets a big weight for age concession. Trainer’s daughter should know the horse well and he looks the type to go well for his in form trainer.

Aljady, (1425 York), 6/1: We napped this lightly raced high class handicapper on his return over 6f here in May. He ran very well for third there having been drawn away from the pace. Looked like a 7th furlong would suit and could improve a lot for that run. Won on debut on soft and may have too much class for these. Old favourites Lord Oberon and Get Knotted look the main dangers.

Dazzling Dan, (1535 York), 13/2: it can be dangerous looking to the head of the market in this always uber competitive handicap, but the entwined form of old rivals Dazzling Dan and Moraawed is the most compelling on offer. A turn in the weights and first time blinkers could help Moraawed if waking him up earlier in the race. But this track suits prominent racers and that looks perfect for Dazzling Dan who is likely to be up there from the start and has soft ground winning form this season.
