NAP OF THE DAY: Archer’s Dream, (1610 Salisbury), 1pt win, 9/4:
Strictly on current ratings has nearly a stone to find with market rivals Snazzy Jazzy and Emaraati Ana. But it is a sign of trainer Fanshawe’s faith that he runs this filly here in Listed company rather than exploit a superb looking mark. She thrashed her rivals last time at Yarmouth, three of those left trailing have won since, the runner up there winning at York on Friday, a performance that suggests Archer’s should be rated well over 100, and thus can be very competitive here. The benefit of experience and a breeding that suggests softer ground should suit are all further positives.
Barasti Dancer, (1700 Doncaster), 10/3: had been in good form on faster ground but seemed to be coping well with a softer surface at Carlisle last time before finding trouble and finishing well for fourth. Gave the impression he could have finished much closer and gets the chance to prove that with market rival Lightning Attack who was second there reopposing on the same terms. Given better luck it is worth trusting Barasti to reverse the placings
Pettochside, (1720 Salisbury), 6/1: favourite Paddy Power tries to defy a mark of 83 having been beaten in all 25 runs when rated over 80. Youkan has to overcome slow starting, and Maygold is on a career high mark. That opens the door to course loving Pettochside. This veteran has won 9 of his 10 turf wins on soft, including the twice he has run here on such going. He is on his lowest mark since the first of those course wins 4 years ago, and ran pretty well from a tricky draw for fourth at Sandown yesterday. Looks a value option if turned out quickly.
Maid In Manhattan, (1735 Doncaster), 6/4: It’s well worth following a mare when she hits form and this girl has done that with a vengeance of late. Off a basement rating, she won nicely at Wetherby, but was a revelation off a 4lb higher mark on heavy ground when scooting clear at Nottingham on Thursday. Gets a 5lb penalty but will surely get a double figure hike when re-rated and should follow up here under similar conditions.
