PGA Tour: An Italian job…

The US PGA Tour heads from coast to coast across the continent to TPC River Highlands in Connecticut this week, a week after the US Open in California.

The strong field is headed by Brooks Koepka. The American star came close last week at Pebble Beach, and if the tournament’s organisers could persuade him that this was a major then we would be tempted. As it is, we’ll pass despite his obvious claims.

Instead we’ll side with another couple of major winners.

Our win bet is Francisco Molinari. The Italian star has been a little off this season after last year’s stunning exploits. However, he showed signs last week that he was coming back to his best, finishing tied 16th at Pebble Beach. He will want to be playing well to defend his Open title next month, and this course looks right up his street.

Our second selection is Bubba Watson. This American is quirky. Never having taken a lesson, he plays everything by the way he visualises the shot. And consequently some courses fit his eye more than others. He has 12 PGA Tours wins to his credit, and eight have come on just three courses. This is one of those venues, having won three times here and placed in the top five on an additional two occasions. He didn’t play last weekend having missed the cut (Pebble Beach not being one of his courses!), so should be fresh.

Molinari to win, 1 pt, at 22/1, Unibet

Watson 0.5 pts each way at 33/1, 1/4 the odds for the first five places, bet365
