PGA Tour: It’s turning Japanese…

There’s a new tournament for members of the PGA Tour to adjust to this week, with the Detroit Golf Club hosting the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

The newness of the tournament has diluted the quality of the field somewhat, but heading it up is the world no. 2 Dustin Johnson. DJ has the power and ability to turn this into a procession, but at around 6/1 on a new course we’ll pass.

Instead we’re going to take a punt on Hideki Matsuyama. This talented Japanese player has slipped out of the top 30 in the world, but has been showing signs of improvement of late. He finished tied 21st in the US Open and then had a break last week, so should be fresh.

Our second selection is Brandt Snedeker. This American veteran won us some each way cash at the Canadian Open earlier this month, and we’re prepared to go to this well once more. He tends to play well on tracks, such as this one, which have been designed by Donald Ross. Game on.

Matsuyama to win, 1 pt, at 14/1, Ladbrokes

Snedeker 0.5 pts each way at 33/1, 1/4 the odds for the first five places, bet365
