Thursday Yankee: Wish fulfilment?…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Magical Wish, (1500 Newmarket), 1pt win, 7/1:

A big field of 3yo sprinters means some are likely to have secrets from the handicapper. That probably isn’t the case with Magical Wish after 5 good runs this season and a ratings hike of 12lbs for those efforts. But he just seems to be getting better, following two decent York efforts with a closing second at Sandown having met some trouble in running. Has the power of De Sousa in the saddle and this fast run 6f with a stiff finish looks perfect.

Eagles By Day, (1350 Newmarket), 7/4: has to prove he is as effective over this extra 2f, but being out of Sea The Stars he should be good. On form he has to be the pick having run a superb staying on third to the brilliant Japan at Royal Ascot. That edges out the staying form of those that have come here from the Queen’s Vase, and he can put that edge of quality to good effect under the flying Danny Tudhope.

Momkin, (1640 Newmarket), 11/4: this fella looked a lively contender in Royal Ascot’s Jersey Stakes but nothing went right for him there and he was a messy 6th. He can turn the tables on the 4th and 5th from that race who reoppose here. The favourite is Turgenev who at this trip had the Britannia win and bookies in full scale panic as he tried to keep up that Dettori run. He just got run out of it, and that top handicap form doesn’t always convert in these small field conditions races.

Rhythmic Intent, (1915 Newbury), 7/2: was unlucky to find a red hot maiden event on seasonal debut, and the was unlucky again on subsequent handicap debut when rallying well to go down by a short head. Looks sure to go well and could still improve. Favourite Match Maker was two years off before winning a weak Ayr maiden, and for all the Crisford yard are excellent, theresya lot that go wrong after that reappearance.
