The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Durston, (1440 York), 1pt win, 2/1:
Catches the eye as the only 3yo against older horses. Catches the eye further as he is on a roll having won his two handicaps. Add in a fairly lenient weight rise and the excellent 3lb claim of leading apprentice Sean Davis and it is hard to see this fella’s winning run getting derailed here.
Ben Vrackie, (1500 Newmarket), 11/4: represents a top stable and looked better than ever on reappearance when running a desperately close second in a top Royal Ascot handicap. Has been raised a lenient 4lbs for that, but that doesn’t affect this warming closing race so he comes here officially 4lbs well in. Frankie takes the ride and looks sure to go close.
Ironclad, (1545 York), 11/4: another case of just one three year old in a field of older horses. Has an ok chance on the formbook with his maiden win last time not exactly golden – but his pedigree is superb, his relations are improvers with age, and there has to be every reason to expect he’ll just get better.
Lord Riddiford, (1720 Newmarket), 11/4: has looked like he was coming to the boil nicely and was very well backed for a big race over at the Curragh last time. Did well to be 5th there having been very poorly drawn and although narrowly behind main danger Orvay there, he can turn that around with a better draw and the irrepressible Frankie on board.
