Saturday Yankee: Saab set to motor home…

Rain-softened ground scuppered our two Hamilton picks last night, but the other two Yankee legs delivered (7/2, 11/4) to ensure some returns.

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Intisaab, (1525 Curragh), 2pts win, 15/2:

A cracking sprint handicap. The ex English trained Buffer Zone is favourite after an Irish debut win but he was best on debut last year and may not repeat the form. Also ex English Chessman is very interesting, but the still English Intisaab looks the one. When he won this race last year it was part of an ongoing trend of English sprinters taking Irish prizes. He’s 2lbs lower this year, has still looked in some form in recent races, and gets the Frankie factor in the saddle. All looks set for a repeat win.

Proschema, (1425 Newbury), 5/1: this excellent 2m race looks to revolve around three form lines. Carnwennan won the consolation Northumberland Plate, Proschema was third in the actual Plate, and Withhold won the actual Plate last year. Proschema appeals most as he was finishing well there on his first 2m venture and gets the excellent Kingscote returning in the saddle, this track should suit and he may be better than a handicapper in time.

The Tin Man, (1500 Newbury), 2/1: top class sprinter with Group 1 winning form in his back catalogue. Gets in here on favourable terms and should enjoy the bit of cut. Ran pretty well in top Ascot race on quick ground last time and should prove he is a class apart here.

Prevent, (1900 Haydock), 5/1: ran to marks in the low 80s for the Beckett stable last season. Was a very slow starter to this season for new trainer Ian Williams, but that saw his mark drop to 74, and he exploded back to form with a last gasp win at Newbury on his first try at this longer trip of 10f. He stays at that longer trip today, and this looks a good opportunity to follow up off just a 2lb higher mark.
