PGA Tour: Rory to rebound…

The pubs of Offaly, and our subscribers, may still be counting their takings after Shane Lowry‘s win at the Open Championship, but the PGA Tour rolls on.

This week TPC Southwind in Memphis hosts the WGC Fedex St. Jude International, with an impressive field given its proximity to the last major of the year.

The defending champion is Dustin Johnson, who closed last year with an eagle to cement his second victory at this event. He has a tremendous record around here and we won’t put anyone backing him at a double figure price. However, his game still seems a little off to us, so we’re going to pass.

It’s difficult to ignore Brooks Koepka. He would have left Royal Portrush disappointed with his weekend play, but he still finished fourth. However, this isn’t a major, so we’ll skip.

The player that leaps out at us for this tournament is Rory McIlroy. The disappointment etched on his face after missing the cut on Friday was there for all to see, but he had shot a magnificent 65 in tricky conditions.

Those two days will have taken a lot out of him, but he had the weekend to relax and watch a friend win a tournament which I’m sure he believed could have been his.

So how does he react? We think the events of the last few days could give Rory the push he clearly needs to refocus his career. And that starts this week.

Recommendation:

McIlroy to win, 2 points, at 10/1, bet365
