The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Mountain Peak, (1645 Ascot), 1pt win, 7/1:
Loads of pace on in this dash with Harome, Only Spoofing and Ornate sure to make this a blast. That should set things up for a closer on this stiff finish, and Mountain Peak fits the bill. Won here off 83 last season and did so again last time off the same mark at Newmarket. Is up to 89 now, but that was a convincing win last time and the stable is running hot at a near 30% strike rate.
Equiano Springs, (1830 York), 7/1: giving weight away in a 6f sprint is not too daunting, and this guy has earned top weight with some sparkling recent form. Was second at Thirsk before a really impressive win at Doncaster, and was unlucky when fourth at Haydock. Those all all pretty sharp tracks, much like this one, and he can go well.
Irv, (2000 York), 5/1: was having only his 9th run when easing clear to win here in impressive fashion last time. A 6lb rise for that is pretty generous treatment, and a known liking for this course is always a significant plus. Takes on mostly older and more exposed rivals and should continue his improvement here.
And The New, (2045 Chepstow), 7/4: is a 132 rated hurdler who has only just tried a flat career. Ratings don’t always translate between codes, but a rating in the 80s would be roughly appropriate, and as such a mark of 65 looked generous when he made his handicap debut here last time. What didn’t look right was the trip of 12f, and sure enough he was staying on strongly in the end for a close third. This trip of 2m is ideal and he looks unstoppable.
