Saturday Yankee: Rain to prompt Sand blast…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Raising Sand, (1500 Ascot), 2pts win, 9/1:

It’s a big straight course handicap at Ascot and the ground looks likely to get drenched. That all adds up to blog favourite Raising Sand. He has a bit to find on paper with old rival Rio Orff, but has looked in better form than that horse and the more it rains the better.

Get Knotted, (1405 York), 3/1: arguable lazy picking going for the horse who has won this for the last three years and after whom the race is now named. But he has clearly been prepped for this, down to a noticeably lower mark than when winning this last year, having shown some form last time, and with the ground moving in his favour.

Flashcard, (1425 Ascot), 4/1: has a bit to find on recent form but that has all been on fast ground. With floods of rain forecast, he can be expected to show significant improvement as he runs as though cut will surely help. Looks worth the flutter.

Flying Pursuit, (1440 York), 7/1: another repeat winner, this guy has won this event for the last two years off marks of 90 and 94, making today’s 92 very workable. Loves ground on the soft side and the forecast looks likely to deliver. Big chance of the hat-trick.
