Sunday Yankee: Rufus to be Galway top dog…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Rufus King, (1555 Galway), 1pt win, 13/2:

This English raider is versatile in trip and is one of a few running here after an earlier race this week over 8.5f. In that race he overcame a wide draw to get a prominent position before being overhauled by Saltonstall and Quizical. This time he gets the best draw, a shorter trip which may not suit those opponents, and he can profit from a prominent ride which has been yielding results here all week. He also happens to be named after the Lapoftheodds HQ dog, the equine Rufus being very much a fan of a daily nap…

Ilikedwayurthinkin, (1415 Galway, 11/10: won here with ease earlier in the week and a 5lb rise in the weights probably leaves him around 10lbs well in. Not all horses can take two runs in quick succession, but realistically that looks the only risk here and the likelihood of a win looks much better than the coin-toss odds on offer.

Major Jumbo, (1510 Chester), 5/4: sometimes a short price can be value. Major Jumbo is by some way the best in this field, has been running well all season in higher class, is critically well drawn, and was beaten just a neck in his only previous run here in this race last year. Should be a penalty kick.

Eight And Bob, (1730 Galway), 7/2: was a beaten favourite here earlier in the week when failing to overhaul the frontrunning Upgraded. Can get the better of that one this time at the revised weights and having gotten by far the better draw. Expect him to replicate stablemate Mr Adjudicator who having also been unlucky over 2 miles made no mistake over this shorter trip under more aggressive tactics. Expect the same with Eight And Bob.
