Wednesday Yankee: Magical prospect…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Magical Effect, (1750 Pontefract), 1pt win, 6/1:

Course specialist Highly Sprung won his 5th race here recently and carries a 5lb penalty. Normally that’s our kind of credentials, but we were on Magical Effect that day, himself trying to follow up a strong course win, and he had all sorts of bad luck before finishing a close third. With any sort of luck this time, and with the weight pull, he should reverse the form and go in again.

Medieval, (1600 Brighton), 11/2: hasn’t won for nearly two years but has started to look seriously well handicapped. Drops here to Class 4, a grade where his lifetime form is 1122534, the two wins coming in the only two races at today’s trip. The drop from Newmarket to lowly Brighton can only help, and he has looked a punt waiting to happen and this looks like the day.

Johnny Cavagin, (1650 Pontefract), 7/2: trainer Midgley runs two here and they are set to fight out the finish. Move In Time is getting massively well handicapped and should go close, but old Johnny Cavagin just adores Pontefract and can add to his lifetime form here of 1641123211, the last of which was a good effort and a 4lb penalty leaves him a few pounds well in on official figures.

The Pinto Kid, (1930 Kempton), 6/4: a fairly short price but his three lifetime wins have come on his three runs at this track. The trademark of those has been a smooth travelling style even if the margin of victory is often tighter than seems likely. This ingredients work well for a handicap sequence as he rarely gets raised too much, 4lbs for each win, and he looks to have at lest one more in him off this mark.
