Thursday Yankee: We’re having Second thoughts…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: December Second, (1630 Haydock), 1pt win, 6/1:

A really interesting contender for trainer Philip Kirby. Was twice a bumper winner from three runs before finishing runner up in three maidens, each to top prospects. Those promising efforts do mean he has a pretty high opening mark of 82, but he has been campaigned without fear of his rating and we suspect the trainer thinks he can contend some top staying handicaps and needs a high starting point to increase chances of eligibility- and if that’s the case then he can start by despatching a useful but hardly frightening bunch of northern handicappers.

Black Kalanisi, (1540 Brighton), 6/1: another bumper/hurdle winner getting his first taste of handicaps after three maiden wins. Has been less conspicuous than today’s nap, including when well behind him on flat debut. Ran very nicely last time and whilst a mark of 74 is no gift, it is definitely workable.

All Right, (1550 Yarmouth), 5/2: we napped this filly last time at Lingfield when she was second having looked like she failed to handle the track. Yarmouth should be much more her cup of tea, and off only a 1lb higher mark she looks a good thing here.

Blue Medici, (1700 Haydock), 2/1: arrives here on a hat trick and his win at Newbury last time was particularly impressive, battling back after being passed to win going away. That suggests an extra 4lbs may not stop him. This is an apprentice race, and he has the huge benefit of outstanding newcomer Fallon in top. Form horse plus form jockey should make for simple maths.
