A new Premier League season starts tonight, with Liverpool hosting newly promoted Norwich at Anfield.
The Reds showed enough in the second half of the Community Shield on Sunday against champions Manchester City to suggest that they will be a formidable team again this season.
It’s true they haven’t added anything in terms of attacking talent, but they are welcoming Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back from long-term injuries.
That said, they are still likely to rely heavily on goals from their Egyptian star Mo Salah for their title challenge. He adopted basically a shoot on sight policy on Sunday and really should have netted.
Norwich based last season’s promotion more on attacking play rather than defensive solidity. Additionally, they will miss central defenders Timm Klose and Christoph Zimmermann. This all suggests Salah could get a similar number of chances as on Sunday and he is thus very likely to score.
Salah is best priced 3/1 to open the scoring tonight, but we prefer the 4/1 on offer that he is named man of the match.
Recommendation: Salah to be named man of the match, 1 pt, at 4/1, William Hill
