Lots of near misses yesterday with two seconds and two thirds, all at decent prices. We went down in flames on the win only but know that some wiser subscribers covered the each way accumulator which paid out at nearly 30/1 – discretion being the part of valour on this occasion…
The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Medahim, (1545 Catterick), 1p win, 2/1:
Won handicaps in the Summers of ‘17 and ‘18 off 94 and 95 respectively. Has dropped from a higher mark and is here off 96 having run very well in strong Newmarket and York handicaps when behind some Godolphin handicap blots. No such risk dropping in class at Catterick, and title chasing Tudhope in the saddle is a major plus.
Engrossed, (1850 Wolverhampton), 7/2: lightly raced 3yo filly with good form at this track. Was fourth last time but had a nightmare run. Has hinted that she would enjoy a step up in trip and gets that here. Looks to have most scope for improvement.
Mordred, (1900 Windsor), 10/3: 3yo was looking high in the ratings off the low 90s, but dropped to mid 80s and raised in trip last time he put up a season’s best when running on into fourth at Goodwood. That race received a boost when the second won at the Shergar Cup, and off a pound lower for the in form Richard Hannon yard, Mordred looks set to build on that Sussex effort.
Waterfront, (1930 Windsor), 4/1: was well beaten here last time, but that was a seasonal debut and a third run thus qualifying for handicaps. A mark of 68 looks some way below what he should be capable of, and apprentice Megan Nicholls has looked well worth her claim during a prolific Summer.
