There are a couple of interesting televised games to bet on in the Premier League today, starting with the visit of Chelsea to Norwich.
Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side have had a tricky start to the season. Disappointment at Old Trafford turned to promise against Liverpool in the Super Cup, but still ultimately defeat, and then back to disappointment with a home draw against Leicester. They will be expected to win today, but that expectation brings its own pressure.
Norwich, in the other hand, are enjoying their return to the big time. Sure they lost heavily at Anfield, but they created chances and they then dismissed Newcastle in style. Carrow Road will be jumping and they possess the league’s top scorer in Teemu Pukki.
Chelsea are favourites, but at the odds we fancy the home side to cause problems to an already shaky defence and will take the home win. All together now – Let’s be having you!
Today’s late game sees a top of the table clash with the division’s only 100% records at stake as Liverpool host Arsenal.
The record of the Gunners of late at Anfield is pretty stark. They are without a win in the last six years and have conceded 22 goals in that time, including 12 in their last three visits. This is the acid test of Unai Emery’s new Arsenal team.
That said, they don’t travel without hope. In Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette they have two top class strikers with enough pace to trouble any back line. And they have shown a degree of defensive stability so far this season, only conceding one goal to date.
We think the European Champions will still have too much for this new Arsenal side but the game is unlikely to be as one sided as most of the previous six. Arsenal could defend deep, hoping to frustrate Liverpool and trying to catch them on the counterattack.
With this in mind we like the sound of big central defender Virgil van Dijk scoring from a set piece, and will take the 12/1 on offer that he scores with a header.
Norwich/Chelsea: Norwich to win, 1 pt, at 15/4, BetVictor
Liverpool/Arsenal: Van Dijk to score a header, 1 pt, at 12/1, William Hill
