The attention of the golfing world turns away from Tour Championship to the Swiss Alps and the Omega European Masters. The excitement has been notched up a gear by the presence of FedEx champion Rory McIlroy.
We’ve been keen on the steady play of Matthew Fitzpatrick at this event in the past, and he has rewarded us with a couple of wins. However, while he is going for a hatrick, we don’t think his price now offers value.
Instead we’re going to side with the Northern Irish superstar. His driving on the Sunday at East Lake was simply fantastic, and he could destroy the driveable par fours on the front nine at Crans-sur-Sierre. In previous attempts at this course McIlroy has finished second, seventh and third. It’s true he has to recover from the excitement of the weekend and regain his focus, and he’s a short price, but if he plays well we could be looking at 4/1 as a gift.
Recommendation: McIlroy to win, 2 pts, at 4/1, widely available
