Ouch !! Yesterday’s 2pt nap Ripp Orf (5/1) tried the impossible coming from last place in a slow run race at Ascot. He finished like a train, but was just as punctual, being too late and a head down at the line, another yard and the race would have been his. Those losses are leant until Ripp Orf returns here, but for now we have to take the pain, made more so when Hello Youmzain (7/1) added to what would have been a nice Yankee return.

NAP OF THE DAY: Black Kalanisi, (1700 York), 1pt win, 13/2:
Promising jumps horse who won on flat handicap debut at Brighton. Got that one in the Stewards room after a three way bumping match, the long straight here and more conventional track should be more to his taste. He has only been raised 2lbs and has a very useful young apprentice taking 7lbs off. Irish raider Shamad is hard to assess, but Black Kalanisi should have the home contingent beaten.
Coolagh Forest, (1420 York), 14/1: a big field but a ridiculously short favourite in Passion and Glory, he is hard to assess but in a rating of 90 the handicapper has erred on caution. We like a different 3yo in the Fahey trained Coolagh Forest. He plugged on well over a mile here last time, and the step up to 10f looks due. He should improve and his trainer often does very well here.
Platform Nineteen, (1600 York), 2/1: young stayer whose handicap form of 2111 has seen him rise 18lbs. Was workmanlike winning a four runner event last time, but that was three wins in 15 days and he may have been a touch jaded. Has been off for three weeks since, and as a freshened up horse can defy a modest 5lb rise for that last win.
Roulston Scar, (1630 York), 11/4: ran an excellent 3rd here last time just ahead of Princess Power. They should be close again with Princess Power now ridden by the excellent Tudhope, but after allowances, Roulston will be 8lbs better off. He should also enjoy this longer trip having won over Pontefract’s stiff 6f.
