NAP OF THE DAY: Question Of Faith, (1745 Catterick), 1pt win, 12/1:
Racing can be a game of patience and we have let this mare run all season without going near, but this may be the time. She won this race last year off an 11lb higher mark. That obviously says plenty about what has happened since – most of it bad. She has won twice here in her career, and showed a little more last week in her first run here for nearly a year. That 7th of 9 hardly said imminent win, but she ran well at a trip short of her best and was only 4l behind today’s favourite Jan De Heem. With the longer trip in her favour and a 5lb weight pull from her jockey’s allowance she is entitled to get much closer than the odds suggest. Jockey Eireann Cagney is just starting with two career wins but both in the last fortnight and he is attached to the Fahey yard who know a good young amateur when they see one.
Flower Power, (1500 Catterick), 10/3: this mare was landing a third course win in five visits when surging home by 4l here last week. A 4lb penalty makes little dent in that advantage and it is worth noting she was 3.5 seconds faster (about 10l) faster than rival Gylo when he won the second division of that race on the same card last week. She should follow up.
Burtonwood, (1600 Catterick), 11/2: it’s hard to look past last week’s winner B Fifty Two, but we have to back Burtonwood here. He has looked in great form running over 5f at Beverley this summer, finishing well but scuppered by a series of terrible draws. Has been much luckier here, has winning form at 6f, and the yard are starting to hit their best form of the year so far.
Rose Mayara, (1630 Catterick), 7/2: clashes with fellow Catterick specialist Indian Pursuit. Both should figure but Rose showed startling early pace when trying to make all in a good 7f race here last week. She got overhauled late on there, but back at this trip she could go all the way if able to fly the stalls on the “b of the bang” like she did last time.
