International Golf: Ride the Horsfield Express…

The European golfing circus heads to the Netherlands this week, with the International Golf Club on the outskirts of Amsterdam hosting the KLM Dutch Open.

American Patrick Reed is the favourite and other major winners in the field include Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer. However, we’re going to look more towards youth and side with Sam Horsfield. The 23-year-old Englishman has only been on the Tour for two years but has shown distinct promise. His last four events have seen finishes of 3rd, 10th, 43rd and 14th. He averages over 300 yards off the tee and is likely to take advantage of the five par 5s on the course.

Our second selection is more a question of horses for courses. Romain Wattel won this event two years ago and showed he was in form last week, finishing sixth with weekend scores of 67 and 64. We’ll take a punt on this Frenchman.

Crossing the Atlantic, the Greensbrier Classic at the Old White TPC in West Virginia represents the first event of the new PGA Tour season.

Bryson Dechambeau is the highest ranked player in the diluted field, but he’s been a little inconsistent of late to take a chance on at 10/1. And fellow joint favourite Viktor Hovland is too short a price for essentially a rookie.

Instead we’re going to side with Jason Kokrak. This was the event that he made his breakthrough last year, finishing 3rd, and he has since had a very consistent season. We’ll side with him, and also use him in an each way double with Horsfield.

Recommendations:

Horsfield 0.5 pts each way at 33/1, 1/5 the odds for the first 6 places, Unibet

Wattel 0.5 pts each way at 66/1, 1/5 the odds for the first 7 places, Betway

Kokrak 1 pt to win at 16/1, widely available

Horsfield/Kokrak 0.5 pts each way double
