The Premier League returns this weekend after the international break, and kicks off with a home game for the league leaders Liverpool.
The Reds take on Newcastle, a clash which in the past has thrown up some classic encounters. That said, Liverpool haven’t lost to the Geordies at Anfield for the last 23 league games, and this run is likely to continue today.
It’s tricky to get value for a Liverpool home game – all their main strikers are odds on to score anytime. With this in mind, we’ll look for something more exotic.
Newcastle did well to win at Tottenham recently and we think they will try similar tactics today, sit deep and try and counter. With this in mind, we’ll take Liverpool to have a lot of corners and will take advantage of William Hill’s enhanced 12/1 that Virgil van Dijk scores a header.
Today’s late game sees defending champions Manchester City travel to Norfolk to take on Norwich.
We have been very impressed with Norwich’s start to their Premier League season, playing with attacking intent whatever the consequences. However, there are occasions when this could backfire – they played well at Anfield but lost 4-1. This could be one of those occasions.
Sergio Aguero has scored five goals in his five starts against Norwich, and we think he’ll get chances today against an open team. William Hill have boosted their price on Aguero scoring first to 4/1, and we’ll have that.
