The Daily Yankee
Makanah, (1350 Doncaster), 2pts win, 18/1:
This oddly distanced 5.5f sprint looks likely to be run at an almighty pace from the off with last year’s winner A Momentofmadness very tempting to make all off a 4lb lower mark. But ahead of him last time at York was the fast finishing Makanah. He had to come from some way back then but ran a blinder. He is drawn in stall 1 here but there looks to be plenty of pace in the middle to low draws, and he can go close.
Machine Learner, (1430 Leopardstown), 9/1: it’s rare to see a UK raider in a race like this and trainer Tuite looks set to be rewarded for his bold move. He has booked Oisin Murphy and has a handy middle draw. Has looked as though he has returned to his best in two promising recent runs at Sandown, and these conditions look ideal.
Forbidden Land, (1610 Doncaster), 5/2: still a maiden after 4 runs, but his fast finishing second last time suggest a first win is imminent. It can come in this race as the course here should suit and the stable and jockey love nothing better than picking up races here.
Silverkode, (1800 Leopardstown), 6/1: lost this race in the dying strides last year off a mark of 91. Hasn’t run badly over a distance too short, but somehow the handicapper has bought the story of decline and dropped him to a mark 8lbs lower than last year. This looks like a training master plan and after last year’s disappointment we can be sure the yard has has this date ringed for some time.
