The golfing highlight this week comes from Wentworth in the form of the BMW PGA Championship.
Hot favourite for this event is Rory McIlroy fresh off his triumph in the FedEx Cup. If the Northern Irish star plays well he probably wins, but this course is tree lined and tight and he would have to drive the ball very well.
Instead we’re going to look at a couple of players who will be extremely motivated to play well this week.
This tournament is the first scoring event for next year’s Ryder Cup qualification, and it’s a big one. Shane Lowry surprised many (but not our subscribers!) by winning the Open Championship in July and has been celebrating since. However, as talented as he is, he has yet to appear in that prestigious competition. His boyhood idol Padraig Harrington will captain the European team next autumn, and Lowry will be keen to do well at a course he always plays well at.
Our second selection is Bernd Wiesberger. The big hitting Austrian will also be keen to appear on a Ryder Cup team, having won several times on the European Tour but not in the right years! He won recently so is in form and can take advantage of the par 5s on the course if he drives well.
Recommendations:
Lowry 1 pt ew at 28/1, 1/5 the odds for first eight places, SkyBet
Wiesberger 0.5 pts ew at 40/1, 1/5 the odds for the first eight places, SkyBet
