The Premier League leaders start this weekend’s fixtures off, with Liverpool traveling to newly promoted Sheffield United.
The Reds are on a remarkable run of consecutive wins, and will be confident of winning today. They will hope that Sadio Mane recovers from the dead leg that forced him off early at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
The hosts will also approach this game in a buoyant mood after beating Liverpool’s cross city rivals Everton last weekend. That said, all form points to an away win.
The only problem with this view is that we thought Liverpool’s star men, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah, looked weary in the second half against Chelsea. True they’ve had almost a week to recover, but maybe the lack of a meaningful summer break is catching up. We’ll leave them alone and concentrate on Liverpool’s defenders.
Trent Alexander-Arnold scored wonderful free kick against Chelsea, surely ensuring he gets another bash. It’s not easy to score from outside the penalty area but robust defending from the hosts could ensure plenty of opportunities. SkyBet offers an enhanced 14/1 that the England fullback scores from outside the penalty area. We’ll try that.
The late game in the Premier League features the other team from Merseyside, Everton, who host the defending champions Manchester City.
City truly avenged their shock defeat by Norwich by thumping Watford 8-0 last weekend, and we can only see another win for the Sky Blues today.
It’s true they have defensive injuries, but surely an complacency has been wiped away and they have players to return fresh after being rested midweek. Add in the poor form of the hosts and this game only goes one way.
Sergio Aguero has scored in seven league games on the trot and is only one behind Jamie Vardy’s record. We’ll bet on him notching at least two today.
Recommendations:
Sheffield United/Liverpool: Alexander-Arnold to score from outside the penalty area, 1 pt, at 14/1, SkyBet
Everton/Manchester City: Aguero to score a brace, 1 pt, at 15/4, William Hill
