We had to wait a long time for our weekend rewards, but our patience was rewarded courtesy of a win for our Nap, Astrophysics (8/1 early, 4/1 SP), who ran away with the sprint at Musselburgh.
The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Quirky Gertie, (1420 Hamilton), 1pt win, 3/1:
We backed this filly when she simply couldn’t go the pace last time on a decent surface at sharp Windsor. She did run on well there though and this stiffer track should suit. She has soft ground winning form and should enjoy these conditions. It’s a very long way to bring her from Mick Channon’s yard, and that bold move can go rewarded.
Capriolette, (1505 Bath), 7/2: Ed Walker’s horses remain in excellent form and this filly added to the roll of honour when a cosy soft ground winner at Nottingham. Her two subsequent runs have been decent but not quite at the level of her win. That means she is just 2lbs higher here, and actually lower including the gift of the Cieren Fallon claim. Back on soft here she can regain the winning habit.
Pettochside, (1535 Bath), 5/2: A winning nap for us last week when overcoming trouble for a comfortable Goodwood win. Goes unpenalised for that, has his essential soft ground, and jockey Toby Eley impresses. Stablemate Firenze Rosa re-opposes having been 3rd last week but is a massive 15lbs better off for a 3l beating. Could complete the forecast but Pettochside my still have the edge.
Celtic Classic, (1640 Bath), 5/2: came second for us at Chepstow when staying on well and has won since at Kempton. Not much higher here though and has always looked like this extra trip should help, Gets his soft ground and it looks set for a third win of the Summer.
