NAP OF THE DAY: Stallone, (1525 Nottingham) 1pt win, 14/1:
Has only encountered heavy ground once before when running out a tidy winner here in June off a mark if 65. Mostly struggled a bit since and is now just 1lb higher than that rating. Hasn’t had his ideal conditions lately but that looks set to change here, Expect jockey Martin Dwyer to stalk strong Easterby pair Afandem and Kenny The Captain and deliver Stallone late for the win.
Regular Income, (1555 Nottingham), 13/2: three of his four turf wins have come on soft, and two of them have come here. His mark of 80 is barely above his last winning weight and he has to have a strong chance in a weak enough race
Dagueneau, (1625 Nottingham), 20/1: for sure favourite Goshen could be hard to beat, but this kind of trip on heavy ground could result in a surprise. Dagueneau’s best run was arguably a win here on soft last year. He has mostly struggled this season but was a close second here two runs ago. Has been effective on soft before and may handle conditions better than most on what will be his first start for trainer Emma Lavelle.
Aperitif, (1655 Nottingham), 2/1: still a lightly raced filly whose four handicap runs have yielded form of 1103. They have all come on soft and as a daughter of soft ground sire Pivotal, she should cope with the gruelling conditions. A mark of 67 looks within scope, and she should have this field covered.
